National Library's Literacy and Learning Directorate sits within the Information and expertise Services branch, the Department's epicentre of information management, culture and heritage.
Literacy and Learning's Services to Schools is seeking an exceptional person to join our reading services team. The Senior Specialist, Developing Readers is responsible for providing deep specialist expertise and skills in reading engagement and literacy, supporting programmes, and the development of resources that will encourage young people to read for pleasure and practice the long-term learning and life benefits this generates.
The Senior Specialist, Developing Readers will develop approaches to collateral and programmes that increase the reach and impact of established services within the Services to Schools. The function will have a particular focus on increasing the impact of the national lending service for schools.
The Senior Specialist will draw on their expertise and practice within education, literacy, library and community sectors to identify opportunities where Services to Schools can support the development of children and young people as readers through effective delivery of our services and resources for schools. They will also support capcapability development within the Services to Schools team.
We are seeking for someone who has previously developed and delivered services, resources and programmes supporting reading engagement working within literacy contexts in education. They would have broad expertise of and a passion for children's and young adult literature and insights into ways books can support effective classroom practice, as well as expertise of New Zealand learning environments and structures, including those supporting M?ori learners.
