Ko wai m?tou? – Who are we? – A little about the company and history.
Rotom? No.1 Incorporation (Rotom?) was established in 1908 by the M?ori Land Court to administer the 6,637 acres on the shore of Lake Rotom? known as the Rotom? No. 1 Block. The operations of Rotom? have been largely dedicated to the forestry industry initially by way of leasing the native forest cutting rights but Rotom? also has commercial rental investments in Rotorua township that provide sound returns.
Rotom? recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary and is focussed on ensuring that the Incorporation has clear strategic direction to foster continued growth and prosperity for the shareholders for another 100 years. Their vision is clear:

Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position
The intent of the newly created position of Tumu Whakarae – CEO, is to navigate and lead the organisation as a Kaitiaki. The primary function is to ensure the right operational plans are in place to deliver on the strategic initiatives to ensure the continuing protection, manage and to enhance, the land and assets to the best advantage of shareholders and their descendants.
Building capacity at all levels to ensure Rotom? is well positioned for future growth, you will set about the review of strategic initiatives, focusing on the best way to support wh?nau in a significant and sustainable way, via monitoring the investment portfolio to ensure assets are performing optimally. Continually researching new opportunities to ensure both land and assets are creating sustainable wealth for stakeholders now and in the future, you will call on your considerable practice in order to examine current internal structures, systems and processes ensuring they are fit for purpose to deliver on strategic goals.
Executing existing investment plans, you will ensure key financial and operational milestones are delivered, whilst working proactively to research and present new investment opportunities that align with the investment portfolios. Developing and implementing a performance process and measures that will ensure the team is on track and focused on delivering to the strategic goals, will see you lead, guide, and coach to develop individual skills and abilities to tautoko them to be the best they can be.
Furthermore, you will develop substantial measures, and efficient communication strategies, including gaining feedback from wh?nau, to determine the effectiveness of financial and social initiatives.
Taking an in-depth look at the current operational processes, ensuring they are fit for purpose, you will work in conjunction with the Operations team, to identify continuous improvements to current systems, whilst developing an implementation plan to prioritise and address improvement areas. Not shy in seeking new and innovative ways of generating earnings and maintaining key relationships, you will have the confidence to drive business as well as to ensure key stakeholder relationships are developed.

Skills expertise and practice required for application will include;
   » broad, comparable practice managing at a GM or CEO level of business.
   » Significant practice in the management of commercial assets and the growth of investment portfolios.
   » expertise of te reo me ?na tikanga, the consciousness of iwi – hap? dynamics and the sensitivity of the kaupapa.
   » A highly practiced leader of people supported by a skill set of strong negotiation skills and broad practice within business leadership abilities.
   » Has a reputation among Kaum?tua and Kuia as someone who is trusted and leads in a tika, pono and aroha way.
   » Familiarity in navigating government funding platforms.
   » An excellent report writing skill set, able to analyse complex information such as legislation and policy.
   » High levels of financial acumen, practice providing risk mitigation and risk. minimisation strategies and the practice in working with and providing expert advice to Boards.
   » Skilled in the formation, implementation, and execution of policy and of strategic plans.
   » A skill set which has seen you build people capacity and capcapability by providing coaching, support, feedback and function modelling tika behaviours.
   » Able to demonstrate the proven capability to work collaboratively to develop and grow relationships proactively.
   » Display innovation, enthusiasm, and passion – able to think outside of the box, eager to find new ways to innovate and deliver.
   » Ideally hold a degree or MBA; preferably in M?ori Business.
