About the function
This is a dedicated position for Whare Manaaki (the Kaupapa M?ori Whare) located in Greymouth. You will only be working with tamariki and rangatahi that go into the whare along with their wh?nau. The Whare has been established in partnership with the two hap? of Ng?i Tahu, Makaawhio and K?ti Waewae. The position will be located externally.
The purpose of this position is to work within a team to support a pathway for wh?nau to achieve return home or transition tamariki to safe ‘wh?nau for life’. The team will support and empower wh?nau to participate in transformational change. While this position is located in Greymouth, you will be a part of the wider regional team who work across the three whare in the Upper South.
   » You will have sound practice in working with tamariki, their whanau and Kaitiaki (caregivers)
   » An capability to connect with tamariki and rangatahi and quickly build rapport, have great engagement expertise, can overcome barriers to engagement
   » Comfortable working in a team environment to ensure the best outcome for tamariki and their whanau
   » Have the capability, confidence, and knowledge to navigate relationships with wh?nau, hap? and iwi services
   » Have established relationships and networks across the area
   » Have a broad-located knowledge of M?ori values and knowledge including the contextual background
   » Given the nature of the work, this is not a nine to five function and evening and weekend work will be required in discussion with your manager

The prosperous applicant will have the following:
   » Have a social work qualification that is recognised by the SWRB or have full SWRB registration and current APC
   » Be a highly skilled Social Worker with proven success at achieving great results for tamariki and whanau
   » Demonstrate resilience, problem solving techniques and flexibility
   » Be confident and articulate with excellent communication expertise including report writing
   » Have excellent time management and organisational expertise.
   » A full, current driver’s licence
