Wellington City Council (WCC) is seeking a 3D Generalist to?join our Digital Innovation Team for a one-year fixed-term contract.
We are building a Digital City Model using Unreal Engine to create hyper-realistic 3D visualisations of the city as Information technology is now, as Information technology was in the past and how Information technology may be in the future. You will work alongside developers to produce visualisations and digital practices to support projects from across Council. These projects will communicate complex data and scenarios to breadth of audiences for uses such as public engagement, data modelling, storytelling and educating. You will design and create digital assets and environments to support our 3D visualisation needs.
The team
Our Digital Innovation team provides innovative approach to the city's key Long Term Plan priorities and challenges using digital technology and design of digital solutions. The team is a mix of technical and innovation expertise that collaborates with Council teams to address key challenges in areas such as customer engagement, sustaincapability, planning, and compliance. A key focus for the team is the Digital City Model programme of work.

The function
You will primarily work as part of the Digital City Model team, alongside developers and the product manager in a small, highly collaborative, energised team. You will work with a variety of teams from across Council and need to work closely with other technical specialists such as GIS, Architects, Engineers etc depending on the project at hand.
In this newly created function, you'll be listening to the ideas and needs of our internal customers and be able to turn them into 3D visualisations. You will enhance the realism, detail and quality of the Digital City Model environment. You will create terrain, textures, lighting, shading and more.
Our success in theBloomberg Global Mayor's Challenge 2021has enabled us to accelerate the development of the Digital City Model - your function will be integral in working with Council, Mana Whenua and climate scientists to create visualisations of climate impact, climate adaptation options and a historical model of the city.
Who we're looking for?
You are a creative, innovative problem-solver, and have strong communication expertise. You are a generalist with a keen interest in environments, someone who is detail oriented but can see the big picture and knows what makes a scene.
You are someone who is passionate about creating value and positive results for your customers and can work well in a team produce high quality outputs. You are receptive to feedback and able to develop and implement changes as required.
This is a newly created and one of kind function in the team, so you will be confident in your expertise and capabilities and practiced working alongside developers. Ideally, you'll have at least 2 years' practice working with 3D modelling or visualisation (or practice working in another field with a significant tertiary qualification).

   » Unreal Engine
   » Solid artistic and technical expertise
   » General capability around modelling, texturing, shading and lighting and particularly in optimisation of assets and scenes
   » practice as an environment artist is an advantage
   » Strong team player with a good sense of humour
The ideal candidate will have the following:
   » practice with other game engines
   » Familiarity with ESRI products
   » practice designing and modelling architectural located environments
   » practice creating photorealistic visualisations for promotional materials
