To support us in achieving our goals We are seeking for an practiced manager to lead our Strategic Planning and Urban Design Department within the Strategy and Democracy Group.The position of Manager – Strategic Planning provides leadership abilities to the team that is responsible for Strategic Planning; Urban Design, Corporate Planning; Spatial Planning and the development of bylaws. The team are tasked with effectively collaborating and engaging with hapu, local business and communities across the Whangarei District to support the development of short, medium and long-term strategies. These strategies, including our City Centre Plan, Climate Adaptation Programme and District Housing Strategy will inform the growth and development of our district meeting current and future needs of our growing population. The candidate prosperous in securing this function will be able to tap into new trends, legislation and policy and inform elected members and senior management of their impact on Council. To be considered for this opportunity you will also have proven capability to build strong working relationships across organisations, you will understand and use team located processes to accomplish goals and have the capability to influence others to ensure that strategies and plans are implemented. Your effective facilitation and mediation expertise will effectively broker between the governance and operational functions of Council while performing as a member of the operational leadership abilities team and where appropriate representing Council on external groups. If this sounds like an ideal function for you and you can also demonstrate the following attributes then we’d love to hear from you: » Strong leadership abilities expertise that can empower and motivate others to effectively deliver results » Proven capability working with Maori entities and communities of interest » knowledge of the application of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi » Knowledge of Resource Management Act, Local Government Act and other significant legislation » knowledge of the basic principles of urban design and its importance in long term strategic planning » knowledge of local government systems and processes » practice in leading consultation processes » The capability to operate effectively with a high level of diplomacy » Strong written and oral communication expertise » Strong project management practice » The capability to influence others through the development of strong working relationships and provision of clear well thought out advice » A significant tertiary qualification or practical practice in this field » capability to deliver robust strategies and solutions that are both innovative and practical. » The desire to embrace and work in conformity with our organisational tikanga.
