About our group and team
The Ministry’s multi-award-winning Internal Audit and Assurance team is strongly focused on making a difference to the organisation’s priority results. Our primary purpose is to provide the leadership abilities team with timely assurance and strategically significant insights on the Ministry’s operations, and initiatives. Auditing for results is not prescriptive or straight forward, but this approach is how we add real-time value that makes a difference.
About this function
The function of Senior Internal Auditor is to lead and deliver audit and advisory engagements across the Ministry. These include corporate functions and sector specific operations, which will give you a wide palette of practice and learning opportunities. You will be required to develop a good knowledge of the business, establish effective relationships with key staff, and demonstrate leadership abilities on your engagements. Your responsibilities include deploying appropriate procedures to meet the engagement scope and objectives, distilling evidential observations and root causes, and formulating pragmatic improvement actions in collaboration with the business.
About you
We are seeking for a motivated, solution-oriented and relationship-savvy person who can:
   » understand context and discern important matters from the trivial
   » use appropriate methodologies to carry out advisory and assurance engagements
   » use data and information to identify problems efficiently and effectively
   » analyse and describe the root causes of problems clearly
   » be agile and flexible in balancing the delivery of planned and unplanned engagements
   » communicate effectively in person and in writing to build rapport and trust with staff and management
   » understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tangata Whenuatanga.
You do not need to be an practiced internal auditor or hold a degree in finance or accounting. But you will need to be degree qualified and have previous work practice that required you to demonstrate curiosity, exercise sound judgement, and engage authentically with people. If you have these attributes, we will do the rest to equip you with the job know-how and technical training, as required.
