Ko wai m?tou? – Who are we?
The core purpose of Youth Horizons, Kia Pu?wai, is to provide specialised programmes for the avoidance, treatment and management of emotional, mental health or developmental issues that may manifest in conduct problems or are likely to negatively impact life-long results for infants, children, young people and their families.
The organisations' mission is to provide evidence-located and bi-culturally focused programmes that create better futures for rangatahi who are impacted by conduct problems. A national charitable Trust, Information technology is working to improve the lives of children and young people who are dealing with behavioural, emotional, mental health or development issues. Equity-led, knowledge-driven, and aligned to the individual and their wh?nau, there are now over 250 staff and caregivers providing outcome focused support, to young people, their families and wh?nau across the North and lower South Islands.
Kia Pu?wai is committed to the continuous development of an effective bi-cultural approach to treatment and service delivery. They deeply acknowledge the function of M?ori as tangata whenua in Aotearoa, and as such, are committed to furthering practice and knowledge in Te Ao M?ori. To ensure this is achieved, organisational values and kaupapa are integrated all over all services, and are committed to professional practice that reflects the core values of aroha, whanaungatanga, wairuatanga and manaakitanga.
Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position
The overarching intent of this position, is to ensure that the tikanga of the organisation, as set by the Kaumatua, is embedded within all aspects of function delivery. Including the development and facilitation of training, advice provided during cultural consultation and in the facilitation of Te Ao M?ori practices and protocols including noho Marae, p?whiri and poroporoaki.
Tasked with developing and delivering M?ori cultural training modules via a variety of mediums, you will be working closely with the Tukutuku team, Kaumatua, M?ori leadership abilities Group and operational staff. Guaranteeing that cultural practices, processes, protocols, and M?ori cultural frameworks are woven into service delivery, you will in turn be promoting prosperous results for rangatahi M?ori and their wh?nau. Supporting the assessment of M?ori cultural development needs of staff through interpretation of the annual cultural needs survey and develop plans to address any deficiencies, you will set about knowledge needs of service delivery leaders to improve the results for M?ori clients.
Working closely with and seeking guidance from the kaumatua, you will be immersed within the business, enabling, managing, and measuring the increase of staff cultural competence. Willing to share natural networks to assist the organisation in maintaining strong effective working relationships with local iwi, you will form strong internal bonds with the M?ori leadership abilities group, Pasifika Komiti Management team, and Practice and Team Leaders.
Ng? tino P?kenga/Wheako – Essential skills/practices for the function
A tertiary or Te Whare W?nanga qualification in social services, mental health, education, humanities or te reo me tikanga M?ori would be highly desirable to application. A level 7 tertiary qualification and a full driver's license are both mandatory application requirements.

   » Fluency and knowledge of Te Reo M?ori and commitment to and knowledge of tikanga M?ori.
   » practice working with young people or wh?nau or within a therapeutic setting.
   » The practice of supporting cultural competency to embed Te Tiriti into practice as standard.
   » practice working within and implementing operational aspects of Te Ao M?ori.
   » practice in dealing with conflict resolution, relationship, and behavioral issues.
   » Have already established wh?nau, iwi, hap? networks.
   » practice integrating bicultural and clinical deliverables and skill in shaping and influencing work force change and development.
   » Computer literate and confident in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, can write and deliver information in a range of different forums and via different media.
   » The cultural competency to promote and demonstrate the value of tikanga M?ori, and the skill set and cultural identity to act as cultural support for internal staff.
   » The proven capcapability to empower and enhance the mana of others.
Able to self-reflect, receive, and adapt to supervision of practice, you will have the appropriate and significant cultural practice and a working background in significant field, such as social work, psychology, counselling, youth work, mental health or education would be highly valuable to application, and the capability to thrive in this position. knowledge of cultural diversity, colonisation and decolonisation impacts as well as knowledge of the cultural, wh?nau and social contexts of rangatahi who display conduct problems would be highly significant to this innovative position.
located in the national office in Mt. Wellington, Auckland, a level of flexibility is desired from candidates in order to travel locally and nationally to facilitate hui, to train and to attend noho marae. Flexibility in both start and finish times may be required to fulfil the function.
