Our DHB covers the largest geographical catchment amongst all the DHB's in New Zealand. We proudly strive to provide top quality healthcare to our diverse patient population. We are now looking for a dynamic, forward thinking Plastic Surgeon for a parental leave cover. About the function This is a full-time 1.0 FTE function located in Dunedin. The parental leave will start in Dec 2021 and end in June 2022. As an introduction, we provide care for a population of approximately 350,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand. Our staff enjoy close relationships with the University of Otago, School of Medicine and Otago Polytechnic School of Nursing. We benefit from continuous professional development, involvement with medical and nursing student training, participation in research and many more opportunities arising from working in a combined clinical-academic environment. Currently we are a team of four and you would work in a close and supportive environment. Our department provides generalist plastic surgery service; therefore good exposure to a great variety of plastic surgery including skin cancer treatment, breast reconstruction, elective hand surgery (acute hands are managed primarily by Orthopaedics) and the opportunity to provide reconstructive collaboration with the Orthopaedic, ENT and General Surgical Services. Some practice in management of burns and practice in microsurgery is essential. We are well supported by the other Plastic Surgery centres in NZ with regard to large burns, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial surgery and vascularanomaly surgery.
