This could be either a part time (0.8 FTE) or fulltime (1 FTE), Plus on call. The ideal applicant will have general Otorhinolaryngology practice with demonstrable subspecialist interest in either Head and Neck Surgery or Rhinology/Paediatrics. The candidates will support the remaining consultant team who currently provide subspecialty Otological and Head and Neck surgery. The collegial relationships between departments are strong and consultation with other specialist is easy, either formally with multidisciplinary meetings or informally as required. There is an active postgraduate medical society and there are excellent clinical library facilities. The Otorhinolaryngology department currently participates in fortnightly radiology and head and neck MDT meetings and monthly thyroid MDT and pathology meetings. The department hosts a monthly half day regional CDP meeting with otorhinolaryngologists attending from Whanganui, Taranaki and Hawke's Bay. This position is located at Palmerston North Hospital, a 350 bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatu, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialities with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 170,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
