The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry places Survivors at the heart of its mahi.
The Commission has recently re-aligned its organisational structure to ensure Information technology can deliver its large work programme leading towards delivering our final report to the Governor-General in June 2023. As a result of this restructure, there are a number of new employment opportunities that have been created across the organisation.
We are currently seeking a General Manager, Policy and Research to join our organisation to provide strategic leadership abilities to the Policy and Research business unit.

As the General Manager – Policy and Research, some key areas of responsibility include the following:
   » Lead and supervise the development and implementation of the Royal Commission’s Policy and Research work programme
   » Ensuring the directorate deliver high-quality and fit-for-purpose policy and research advice to Commissioners, the Executive Director, Associate Executive Director, Operations and Counsel Assisting
   » Ensuring the use of sound quality assurance methods to ensure policy and research services and products are high quality
   » Identifying, establishing, maintaining and drawing on trusted relationships internal to the Royal Commission and both domestically and internationally as part of a defined strategy
expertise and practices
The key expertise and practice We are seeking for include (but not limited to):
   » practice in creating an environment conducive to building strategic, responsive and operational policy capcapability that is robust and evidence formed
   » An advanced knowledge of the principles of policy development and quality policy advice processes
   » An knowledge of the machinery of government processes, and practice establishing policies to comply with significant legislation would be an advantage
   » An knowledge of the issues facing Survivors of abuse in care, including of their whanau/support network, hapu, iwi, hapori / community
   » Proven success in supporting and nurturing staff
   » Proven success in working with Maori including whanau, hapu, iwi, and Maori organisations
   » An knowledge and appreciation of discapability issues, working with Deaf communities, people with disabilities including those with mental illness and intersectionality issues
   » An knowledge and knowledge of tikanga Maori, and Pacific peoples’ culture

The Royal Commission is investigating the abuse and neglect of people in State and faith-located institutions between 1950 and 1999. We will make recommendations to the Governor-General in 2023 on how New Zealand can better care for children, young people and vulnerable adults.
