ARONUI is an explosive, electric, and boldly Indigenous Arts Festival, set in the depths of an active caldera in Aotearoa's volcanic epicenter, Rotoruanui-a-Kahumatamomoe. With Mana (pride), Mauri (energy) & Manawa (heart), ARONUI is helmed by key Iwi leaders and world-class, award-winning artists in the heart of Aotearoa's leading M?ori arts district, making this Festival a direct incentive developed, designed & driven by Mana Whenua (Iwi of the land). The conceptual framework for ARONUI is Te Wh?riki (woven mat) - supporting and weaving together the individual stories and art mediums into a complete Festival - celebrating, sharing, and inspiring artists and audiences through Indigenous arts in all their rich forms. ARONUI has a goal to become a globally renowned, leading Indigenous Arts Festival, which will see Indigenous artists from across the world travel to share their stories, their voices, and their hearts with the people. Every year we will add to our ever-growing M?ra kai (garden) by bringing together a variety of art genres to feed the hearts, minds, and Wairua of Rotorua and surrounding regions. Operationally, ARONUI is delivered by a five-person management team, headed by a Director, which is supervisen by a governing Board of Trustees (BoT). The Board sets the Kaupapa and strategy which guides the Director in programming, organisation, and delivery. The team contracts out for services (artists & performances, technical requirements, venue hire, H&S provisions, etc.) as required.
