Gallery Technician / Registrar
Page Galleries is a contemporary art dealership in the heart of Wellington Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Our gallery represents leading contemporary artists as well as maintaining a strong focus on the secondary market, with resales of significant historical works.
We have a great opportunity suited to Somebody with expertise and practice in handling, installing, and caring for art.
We are pursuing a gallery technician and registrar to assist with our monthly exhibitions as well as the management of our stockroom and incoming / outgoing artwork.
You will be part of a small, dynamic team focused on temporary exhibitions, and working with contemporary artists. The function requires collection management practice and responsibility for preparing documentation, coordinating freight arrangements, and installation and artwork handling. Communication, teamwork, and collegiality is essential, and the prosperous candidate will work as part of the team developing and maintaining systems for receiving, recording and handling of artworks.
This is a part-time permanent function for three days per week with availcapability to cover the occasional Saturday with prior arrangement.
Ideal starting date 8 June 2021 with some training / handover to be arranged beforehand.
income range $25-$32 per hour depending on practice.

expertise + competencies
   » A qualification in a significant discipline and / or practice in a gallery / museum function.
   » practice in handling, packing, storing, and freighting fine art and museum objects; superviseing logistics, schedules and coordinating packing and shipping of art.
   » practice in maintaining accurate documentation of artworks including tracking incoming/outgoing works and maintaining an accurate database.
   » practice in the delivery and installation of exhibitions - including sound technical and workshop expertise regarding hanging artworks and fabrication of displays.
   » expertise in the registration and documentation of art and knowledge of best practice.
   » Excellent time management expertise and proven capability to meet deadlines.
   » Excellent computer expertise including practice with databases.
   » Well-developed oral and written communication expertise.
   » capability to work independently and take ownership of projects as well as an engaged and contributing team member.
   » Accuracy, care, and attention to detail.
   » Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and an knowledge and appreciation of te ao M?ori.
   » A knowledge and interest in contemporary artists and practice would be beneficial.
   » this function requires a high level of physical fitness and health.
   » A full New Zealand drivers' licence.
