The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and sustain nature across Aotearoa. We put nature and people at the heart of our mahi, guided by te reo M?ori, te Ao M?ori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We do this by:

We have three exciting fixed-term positions available at DOC for practiced and dedicated communications and engagement advisors.
As a valued team member, you’ll play a crucial function in supporting priority DOC programmes and projects over the next one to two years. This is your opportunity to leverage your skills in designing and superviseing communications and engagement programmes, demonstrating your strategic thinking, communications, and relationship-building skills.
You’ll be a great communicator who can inspire others, foster collaborations, and help tackle complex conservation challenges in innovative ways. As a skilled advisor and mentor, you’ll support others to communicate and engage effectively with local iwi and communities.
You’ll be working as part of a dynamic national team that drives strategic direction and provides capcapability support and quality assurance for DOC’s engagement initiatives.

Senior Engagement Advisor: Cyclone Recovery
10 -11 month fixed term
   » this function will provide communications and engagement support for DOC work at sites impacted by the Cyclone Gabrielle event earlier this year.
   » You’ll be preparing and updating communication plans and information for DOC, iwi and communities, and supporting DOC’s district office teams to engage with iwi and community stakeholders at affected biodiversity and visitor sites across the upper part of the North Island.
   » Job location: Upper North Island. Some travel to North Island regions likely to be required.
Senior Engagement Advisor: Future Visitors Network
Two year fixed term
   » this function provides communications and engagement support for DOC’s work on designing a Future Visitor Network for New Zealand’s public conservation areas.
   » This will involve supporting communications and engagement with DOC staff, other government agencies, iwi and community stakeholders.
   » Job location: Wellington (preferred). Other regional offices will be considered.
Senior Engagement Advisor: Statutory Process Improvements Nine month fixed term
   » this function focuses on communications and engagement support to develop improved, streamlined systems and tools for processing and permitting concession applications to conduct activities on conservation land.
   » this function has a strong focus on organisational communications and engagement, with some iwi and customer engagement also involved.
   » Job location: Wellington.

To be considered for these opportunities you will demonstrate the following capabilities:
   » Proven practice in crafting high-quality communications for diverse audiences, including government officials, media, iwi, and the general public.
   » Strategic thinking and business analysis skills, enabling you to translate visions into actionable plans.
   » Adept at stakeholder engagement within the government and public sector, providing valuable support and advice to senior leadership abilities and project teams.
   » Respectful knowledge of M?ori Tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with practice in engaging with iwi and M?ori being an advantage.
   » Strong organisational abilities and a reputation as a capable, can-do professional who builds trusting relationships.
