About our group and team
Our aim is to put children and young people at the heart of the education system and encourage all New Zealanders to participate in lifelong learning.
Te Pae Aronui supports our regional offices, who are the key interface with schools and kura. Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, education providers, and communities to provide support, skills and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential. We also directly provide Learning Support for around 40,000 children and young people.
The School Governance team provides expert advice and support for school boards by providing technical advice to our regional offices and our education partners.
About this function
We are seeking for Somebody with recent practice in a New Zealand primary or secondary school and/or as a school board member to join our School Governance team.
The Senior Advisor School Governance works with our regional teams to provide advice and support for school boards. You will also contribute to advice for Ministers and other support agencies (including the New Zealand School Trustees Association).
You will provide expert knowledge and strategic oversight of school governance, support for boards, board constitutions, statutory interventions, planning and reporting, and school elections.
The function works closely with our regional and national office teams, and school boards to make sure school boards are supported to govern schools.
You will need:
   » strong organisational and planning skills
   » good influencing skills and the capability to work with colleagues in person and remotely
   » practice in working co-operatively with others to deal with problems and complete tasks
   » sound judgment, as well as well-developed analytical and evidence-located decision-making skills.
About you
We are seeking for a solutions-focused and organised person who can use their influence and skills to achieve positive results.
To be prosperous in this function, you will be working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders.
Recent practice as a teacher or as a school board member is an advantage.
You will also offer:
   » a significant tertiary qualification or equivalent work practice
   » knowledge and knowledge of school governance in New Zealand schools
   » the capability to provide quality advice and guidance on the implications of legislation and regulations, particularly in relation to school governance
   » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
