Senior Advisor – Special Projects, Wellington – Nelson

About our group
Our Ministry of Education teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, skills and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential. We also directly provide Learning Support for around 40,000 children and young people.
The Special Projects team is responsible for the implementation of key government priorities such as the Free and Healthy School Lunch programme and the period well-being project.
We provide advice and support to our regional teams to support the implementation of the programmes of work.
About this function
You will be responsible for supporting schools and kura to implement a range of programmes and services that support student well-being such as the Free and Healthy School Lunches programme and the period wellbeing project.
You will engage with schools, suppliers and the community to establish and then support our initiatives. This will mean providing advice, guidance and support to schools and kura and suppliers to ensure the delivery of high-quality projects and services that support students.

About you
You will bring your practice working in a Government agency and a sound knowledge of the machinery of government, public sector delivery structures and system s, within the Education sector. By developing effective working relationships and building credibility with stakeholders at all levels, team members, and colleagues you will deliver results by taking ownership as well as being proactive and pragmatic. Being a local, you will have knowledge of the region and how to best engage with schools and suppliers in your area.
You will also have:

   » the capability to operationalise and implement policy
   » practice supporting the delivery of projects in a complex, highly scrutinised environment
   » the capability to work co-operatively and flexibly with others to deal with problems or complete tasks
   » practice of providing high quality and timely advice, written and verbal
   » an knowledge of procurement and contract management
   » a can-do attitude with a focus on delivering results
   » an knowledge and application of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
   » fluency in Te Reo highly advantageous as is an knowledge of tikanga and kawa
   » knowledge of food systems and engaging with suppliers also advantageous.
