We are on the hunt for a passionate community lawyer to join our expanding housing & tenancy service.With the current housing crisis, tenants need more support than ever. this function is an opportunity to help people access, and stay in, secure housing where their rights are upheld. Our prosperous candidate will deliver excellent results for tenants and homelessness in the greater Wellington region. This includes running legal advice sessions that specialise in tenancy and housing, and doing legal advocacy and legal representation for our clients. Our candidate will also participate in legal education to the community to empower people with the expertise of their legal rights. You do not need to have prior practice specialising in tenancy law, but you must have a strong people-focused values system and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. All candidates must hold, or be eligible for, a current NZ practising certificate. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise of te reo Maori me ona tikanga, and practice working in kaupapa Maori organisations or within hapori Maori. We offer a busy but flexible working environment with 5 weeks' annual leave and continuing opportunities for professional development. You will join a team of skilled and passionate lawyers and community workers, including our existing tenancy specialist. The function is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and fixed-term due to the finite timeline of our contract with Wellington City Council although Information technology is possible this will be extended.
