The creation of Te P?kenga was in response to the 2019 Government announcement which signalled key changes to the vocational education system, including on-the-job training. As part of this change Competenz is a highly effective, tertiary education provider, delivering broad classroom, digital, and on-the-job learning.
Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position. A bit of about the function itself, responsibilities, and tasks.
The Kaik?kiri M?ori Development is a key member of the Senior leadership abilities team and provides advice and influence on issues which impact M?ori and obligations under Te Tiriti and Te Pae Tawhiti. The position proactively delivers advice to the wider business on significant M?ori issues and Te Tiriti obligations. Working collaboratively with Kaik?kiri, Director of Partnerships and Equity from the Work located Learning Subsidiary (WBL), you will deliver WBL goals and objectives, whilst driving overarching Te Tiriti excellence within Competenz.
A highly relationship centric position, that will see you building collaborative relationships within the Te P?kenga network, with the intent to ensure Competenz is well aligned with future direction and fulfilling charter obligations. Leading the strategic implementation across Ng? Kaiurungi's business plan, you will partner with the Director and GMs to advise and ultimately influence change internally, on issues that impact M?ori.
Leading the development of project management, reporting and business plans within
the Te Ao M?ori space, you will be creating, improving, and monitoring policies and procedures for the M?ori perspectives programme. Developing key iwi relationship to support results for M?ori, you will be actively identifying iwi and M?ori groups that Competenz needs to engage with, maintaining and developing those relationships for the long term. Providing advice and guidance for the SLT and other staff members when engaging with M?ori, you will support organisational engagement including attending events, meetings as required. Furthermore, you will work in close partnership with the Careers Trades Advisor M?ori to engage iwi for pipeline development purposes.
Leading effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi excellence practices, you will be ensuring that the Competenz work is informed and agreed by their partners and are meeting their reporting requirements. Positively influencing behaviors with employees and leaders to impact success for M?ori learners, you will develop cognitive consciousness and application of Ng? M?t?pono o Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Developing exceptional cross functional relationships, you will be superviseing the development and delivery of internal cultural competency training, the intent of which is to increase staff confidence and knowledge when interacting within M?ori communities, learners, and key stakeholders. Driving collaborative external relationships, you will be ensuring Competenz is continuously aligned with significant M?ori kaupapa across the sector. You will be a pivotal member of the leadership abilities team, and as such contribute to the strategic business plan, managing your cost center to achieve budget requirements, as well as assisting in preparation of budgets and forecasts.

Engaging effectively with teams to ensure smooth implementation, transition, and maintenance of new standard operating procedures, you will develop and maintain all Te Ao M?ori policies, processes, and practices to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice. Scoping and developing proposals for projects, you will present business cases and reports, as well as well as managing project delivery as required.
