M?ori Services Librarian
This newly created function is the result of a review of the services we offer to our community. You will assist people from all walks of life who are interested in finding out about M?ori. We need someone who can point our customers in the right direction and share personal practice to encourage more people to lgain about tikanga M?ori.
What you will do
•Help to create a welcoming environment for customers, in particular with our M?ori community
•Develop and maintain a high-quality M?ori collection
•Promote the collection and encourage community participation through, for example, in-library displays, reading groups, book clubs and social media.
•Provide readers with appropriate recommendations on reading
•contact with community organisations to promote Library services
•Keep informed of current trends in reading and significant technology (e.g. online book clubs, blogs)
Hours
•Your hours will be 37.5 hours per week
•This may include a half day on Saturdays and/or Sundays, as will be rostered
•The team organise themselves so that the Monday and Tuesday may be taken off following a weekend in which they have worked
Opening hours for the library are 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 1pm Saturday, and 10am - 1pm on Sundays.
practice and qualifications We are seeking for
•Diploma in Information and Library Studies - Level 5 or equivalent
•Sound knowledge of tikanga M?ori
•Have a degree of fluency in Te Reo M?ori
•An knowledge of publishing trends in Te Reo M?ori
•practice in Library/Information work
•An organised approach to managing tasks and meeting deadlines
•Clear spoken and written communication
•A positive outlook and sense of humour
