TE PAE TAKATA/SCHOOL of ARTS
Founded in 1869, the University of Otago is the oldest University in New Zealand. We like to think of the English and Linguistics Programme, however, as both the oldest and the newest with regard to the range of our teaching and research, with offerings from Medieval literature through to narrative fiction and poetry in digital media. We have creative writing offerings at all undergraduate levels, with papers the engage with fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, travel writing, and creative writing for videogames and interactive media.
The function – Te mahi
The English and Linguistics Programme is inviting applications for a Lecturer position in creative writing. This position involves a combination of teaching, research, publication, and service. This is a full-time and permanent (confirmation path) position. We are open to the possibility of half-time (0.5 FTE) appointments.
The function will be informed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an engagement with te reo, tikanga, and te ao M?ori. The prosperous candidate will have expertise and skills in creative writing of Aotearoa New Zealand in general, and expertise and skills in M?ori and Pasifika writing in particular. They will have confidence and competency teaching in diverse cultural environments.
The prosperous candidate will coordinate, teach, and/or co-teach a range of our creative writing papers from first- to third-year level. They will also develop their own fourth-year offering and contribute toward and developing curriculum at MA-level. They will be willing and able to contribute to teaching across the wider writing programme as well as into literary studies offerings.
They will supervise creative/critical research at Honours, MA, and PhD levels, while developing and maintaining a strong research profile of their own. They will seek external research funding, fulfill administrative functions, and undertake professional service activities that contribute to the overall effectiveness and standing of the programme, including outreach with community partners such as the Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature.

The prosperous candidate is expected to have a Masters (MA or MFA) or PhD-level degree in Creative Writing or related field.
You will also have a clear track record of publication in creative writing, and the capability two teach at least two genres, forms, or modes of creative writing.

   » An excellent creative portfolio and research profile;
   » Demonstrated practice and capability in delivering high-quality teaching;
   » A commitment to fostering collaborative teaching and research relationships with M?ori and/or Pasifika communities, and demonstrated multi-cultural competence in teaching;
   » A commitment to a curriculum that includes gender-diverse, racially diverse, and neuro-diverse authors and topics in their teaching.
