About our group and team The Sector Enablement and Support group includes a number of teams around the country who work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, skills and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential. We also directly provide Learning Support for around 40,000 children and young people. The Sensitive Claims team is located at National Office in Wellington and manages an Alternative Dispute Resolution process to resolve abuse claims that have been lodged with the Ministry. About this function We are seeking for a bright, motivated and well-organised Senior Advisor to support our claims resolution work. You will work closely with other colleagues to guide claims r ight through the process. The function includes as follows: » Being a point of contact for enquiries received from people wanting to know about our process and lodge a claim » Working closely with our assessors to support claim assessments » Reviewing and analysing claim assessment reports and supporting documentation » Preparing advice to senior managers about our responses to claims » Preparing other significant documentation, including reports and a variety of written correspondence About you We are seeking for Somebody with strong advisory skills, who can give clear well-reasoned advice to support decision-making. We work very closely with the Ministry’s Legal team, so an interest in legal issues and an inquiring mind is a must. You will also need to have the following: » Empathy with our claimants and a commitment to providing excellent customer service » Strong analytical skills, with good attention to detail and the capability to engage with complex material » Excellent written and verbal communication skills » A collaborative approach to your work, maintaining excellent relationships with your colleagues across the Ministry » The capability juggle multiple tasks and react quickly and positively to new work. Being able to work at pace while maintaining high standards is a must » A tertiary qualification, possibly in Law or another significant field » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga Some practice in managing complaints would also be useful. This can be a challenging area of work, so resilience, the capability to maintain composure and keep a strong sense of perspective is necessary. You will be provided with access to external supervision to support you in this work.
