Offer: District Licensing Committee – Members:ChristchurchCCJob description:Job DescriptionThe opportunityThe Christchurch City Council is seeking candidates for two Member positions on the Christchurch District Licensing Committee. The District Licensing Committee (DLC) is responsible for determining all alcohol licenses and managers’ certificates in Christchurch including new and renewal applications. About you We are seeking for candidates who can demonstrate some, or all, of the following (please demonstrate these in your application): » Ideally a background in law and hearing/court processes » A working knowledge of hearings and how New Zealand legislation works » Licensing or regulatory processes » Knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 » Highly-developed listening and questioning skills » Applies rules and regulations in a consistent, non-biased manner » knowledge of alcohol-related harm and how Information technology affects the community » skills in verbal and written communication, and facilitating groups » leadership abilities and active interest in your community Your application will clearly demonstrate how your capability to make decisions on alcohol matters and practice of hearing processes will benefit Council’s DLC. What we offer The DLC function is located on an as-required basis and would suit candidates who would be available during standard working hours to attend hearings. The remuneration rate is set by the Minister of Justice and prosperous candidates will be contracted to the Christchurch City Council and not as employees of the Council. As a member, your function is shared between other members so you may expect to participate in between two – five hearings per year. Hearings can vary in length from one hour up to five days (most cases would be dealt with in one – two days). Decision making process The Council is unable to appoint candidates if they either directly, or by virtue of their relationship with another person, have such an involvement or appearance of involvement that they could not perform their tasks without actual or perceived bias.
