We have a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to New Zealand security in a function at the heart of the decision making process.
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) serves to advance a confident, well-governed and secure New Zealand.
Within DPMC, the National Security Group supports DPMC’s leadership abilities function in the national security sector. This includes the provision of high quality all source intelligence assessments to the customers of the New Zealand Intelligence Community. This responsibility is carried out by the National Assessments Bureau – New Zealand’s primary intelligence assessment agency.
We are pursuing an Assessments Manager to join the National Assessments Bureau and play an integral part in the Bureau management team. Reporting to the Director, you will provide leadership abilities and support to a team of Analysts, be regarded as a thought leader through setting work priorities and promotion of the Bureau in collaboration with the other members of the management team, and ensure quality assurance in relation to the Bureau outputs. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have knowledge of, and practice working on, geo-strategic issues in the Pacific.
Key responsibilities in the function include:
   » Lead, support, coach and develop a team with diverse expertise, background and practice;
   » Champion and sustain a professional, collaborative, inclusive and supportive workplace;
   » Contribute to the thought leadership abilities of the Bureau, including the setting of work priorities in line with customer requirements, and the promotion of the work of the Bureau across the national security sector and intelligence community;
   » Deliver an assessment work programme that has impact, builds capcapability, and meets quality standards;
   » Assure the implementation of policies, systems and procedures, including the appropriate handling of classified information;
   » Maintain effective relationships with a range of senior level stakeholders;
   » Represent the Bureau and New Zealand in meetings with domestic and international partners;
   » Brief senior customers, including the Prime Minister.
We require a leader with proven interpersonal, management and leadership abilities competence, including capability to motivate a skilled team to high performance and customer service improvements. You will have a critical and deep knowledge of national and international affairs, practice interpreting events and trends of national significance and the capability to influence key stakeholders. Demonstrated integrity and professionalism with highly classified material is a given.
practice within the wider New Zealand Intelligence Community, which may include a foreign affairs or defence background, journalism or academic practice, would be desirable.
Please note: To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where significant and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
Secondments will be considered.
The indicative remuneration upon employment for the function is $154,870 to $182,200.
