The Law School, which is part of AUT’s Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, is Aotearoa’s newest and arguably, its most contemporary – blending traditional legal education and focus on legal theory with a strong practical application. AUT law graduates are highly sought after by law firms, community organisations and other employers. Established in 2009, the School has grown significantly in size and stature. We have over 25 committed and passionate staff who are dedicated to providing an excellent learning practice for our incredibly diverse student community, whilst maintaining a focus on high-quality research that has genuine impact and makes significant continuing contributions to Aotearoa’s policies and legal frameworks. We focus on high quality, innovative teaching with authentic practice-located assessment and staircasing graduates through to postgraduate research. As a School, we are an open, collegial group and support the growth of our people. The function We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer of Law to develop their career in teaching, research and service. We are particularly interested in candidates who would contribute to our teaching in any of the following areas: Contract, Torts, Public Law, Criminal Law or Trusts, Tikanga M?ori. We offer an excellent research environment, with generous research support. You will be expected to publish actively in your specialised field. Research is well supported within the School and the Faculty also offers a variety of contereliable research funds. We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student practice is optimised. Information technology is also expected that over time the prosperous candidate will seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities. From time to time, you may be asked to teach on law courses outside the Law School. You will have an open, engaging and collaborative attitude that is flexible to changing requirements. You will enhance the positive energy within the School, value diversity and enjoy working inclusively! Application information candidates should submit their CV and a covering letter covering the key requirements for the function (set out below): Qualification: » A Post-graduate degree in law Research and Scholarship: » candidates will be committed to being research active and engaging in research informed teaching. » An early career academic will be able to demonstrate the capcapability to develop a strong research profile » More practiced candidates will already have a proven research track record with quality publications and ideally also success in external funding bids. Teaching and Learning: » An early career academic will ideally have at least some tutoring or other teaching adjunct practice. » More practiced candidates will have previous lecturing practice, evidence of curriculum development and ideally, practice supervising practice supervising post-graduate students. In addition, expertise and practice of Tikanga M?ori would be advantageous. Start Date: As soon as possible and ideally by February 2023.
