About our group and team The Evidence Synthesis and Dissemination (ESD) group is responsible for relaying the story of students’ educational achievement and wellbeing across their early learning and schooling journey and disseminating information and evidence to our customers. The Evidence Synthesis and Reporting (ESR) team has responsibility for developing and effectively communicating the education narrative and reporting of regular education information releases. About this function This advertisement is for one permanent Senior Analyst and one fixed-term cover for a Senior Analyst from September 2021 to September 2022. The Senior Analyst works closely with the Manager, ESR to provide high quality statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting by the Ministry on indicators of performance for the education sector; to provide advice on education indicators; and to synthesise complex information. The purpose of this work is to describe and understand the story of educational participation and achievement, to help inform investment decisions and ultimately to improve student wellbeing and achievement. This position also acts as a technical mentor to others in the team and is responsible for designating, monitoring, and reviewing work completed by others from a quality assurance perspective. About you To be prosperous in this function you will have analytical and writing practice at a senior analyst level, along with the capability to work independently, build effective collaborative relationships and demonstrate excellent judgement about both your work and who/how to engage with to deliver required outputs. You will also offer: » strong problem solving and numerical expertise and practice, and the capability to see innovative solutions to analysis, reporting and narrative problems » confidence influencing, engaging, and communicating across an organisation and externally » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga » computer literacy including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, MS PowerPoint to an intermediate or advanced level, and practice with database products and programming languages (SAS or similar) » practice working with education system data (administrative and/or survey information) and its application to making an impact on educational achievement » a Tertiary qualification in statistics, economics, or a related discipline, or a social science with a strong analytical component, preferably to post graduate level » advanced knowledge and practice of quantitative statistical analytical frameworks and techniques, methods and tools, and their application.
