Kaip?tiki Project is a for-purpose, community environmental organisation inspiring people to share in nature's revival and live lightly on this planet. located in Auckland's North, we facilitate forest, stream and estuary restoration activities, encourage zero waste, run an established native plant nursery and support local food initiatives through our teaching garden. In all our activities we connect and support others with similar values to achieve our shared goals.
Our goal is to connect people to place and reduce our environmental footprint by supporting local communities to meet their needs through growing food for themselves and others. We aim to grow food, reduce waste, revitalise soils and be part of a network of gardens and practitioners.
The Kai?whina ? Rongo – Food Garden Practitioner is a new function designed to support the Teaching Garden Leader to provide community support and on-the-ground delivery. We are growing our response to community, supporting indigenous and other initiatives, and developing enterprise to sustain our practice.
Working closely with our Teaching Garden Leader, this function will:
   » utilise practical expertise in mara kai to support our own volunteers and others in local place, including local M?ori
   » act as the main point of contact to receive community food waste and build composting practice to regenerate our soils
   » develop growing in our greenhouse to support community food initiatives and test enterprise opportunities
Practical practice in regenerative food growing, greenhouse practice, and maramataka M?ori is essential along with demonstrated expertise in volunteer engagement, and leading and sharing knowledge with diverse groups. In particular, a commitment to m?tauranga M?ori and knowledge of Hua Parakore is the basis to delivering the function.
Starting at 16 hours per week, this function is a fixed term position to June 2022, with the intention to develop the function further. A copy of the job description is available at www.kaipatiki.org.nz/workwithus
