Our Council is committed to ensuring mana whenua and M?ori participate significantly and contribute to, strategic Council decisions. We envision a future where Wellington will be a centre for creativity, exploration and innovation, and the function of iwi and the wider M?ori community in realising this future will be huge.
Te wh?inga roa: The opportunity
This is such an exciting and transformational time to join our newly formed Mataaho Aronui – M?ori Strategic results Group, responsible for providing WCC with a strategic M?ori voice and increased internal capcapability whilst raising its prominence within the organisation.
We are building our future team, focussed on three key M?ori specific areas:
   » M?ori Strategic Partnerships
   » Maori Strategic Advice
   » M?ori Success
This will be the first step in supporting and enabling WCC to strengthen our relationships, presence and intelligence, so that M?ori are engaged proactively in Wellington’s future coupled with enabling the whole organisation to contribute to the effective implementation of our services, ensuring we are aligned to our wider goals for M?ori – meeting the principles of the Tiriti o Waitangi.
This is a newly created function which will sit in the M?ori Strategy team, you will be a subject matter expert on matters mana whenua and M?ori regularly face and will use this knowledge to create a positive impact for M?ori by covering these barriers through well-crafted advice into the organisation.
As the Advisor in the Strategy team, you will provide timely advice and guidance to policies, strategies and other guiding documents of Council. You will support the implementation of our business groups’ work programme through varied work of projects and initiatives. You will be well-versed with our mana whenua partners’ strategic priorities and M?ori aspirations and will be championing these through your everyday contact points.

We need someone who is passionate about the success of our mana whenua partners and M?ori in P?neke.
We are seeking for Somebody with credible practice in the following:
   » Have knowledge/full consciousness of the barriers and complexities Ng?i M?ori face everyday and a strong desire to address them
   » Strong knowledge of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and their applications
   » Have a theoretical knowledge of legislative processes and the machinery of government
   » Be confident working alongside subject matter experts
   » Show initiative, curiosity, flexibility and openness
   » Be able to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly
   » Be a self-starter who actively makes suggestions and contributes to work
You will have the capability to identify, build and actively manage relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and practices. You will be a confident communicator, relationship builder and an influencer who can champion change and kaupapa M?ori within an organisation.
