The Creative Residency Programme is designed to support artists practising in a range of artforms to participate in cultural and artistic exchange and have the freedom to experiment and explore new ideas, research, and engage with local arts communities and audiences. One residency period of12 weeksis available. The dates are5 June to 27 August 2023at Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre in ?tautahi Christchurch.
In particular we are interested in applications from artists who wish to use the time leading up to and over Matariki as a springboard for informing their aims for the residency and contributing to Te Matatiki Toi Ora's Matariki Festival during the first two weeks of July 2023, or artists who are drawn to and inspired by the significance of Te Matatiki Toi Ora as an arts, culture, and heritage taonga - a significant pre-European settlement site for M?ori in ?tautahi and/or a site of learning and discovery. However, allprojects will be considered.
Residents will become part of a small onsite community accommodated within shared living quarters at Te Matatiki Toi Ora and connected to other artists and creative professionals working within the cultural precinct of ?tautahi. We also want to encourage artists to explore possibilities for artistic collaboration during and post-residency with each other and the wider community.
Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre's Creative Residency Programme provides a unique setting for the artists - the largest collection of Category 1 heritage listed buildings in Aotearoa, a hub for creativity, and an entity that has established relationships with local and national arts organisations.
A public programme will be delivered by each resident during the residency period, and Information technology is hoped that any work developed during the residency (if significant) may result in an exhibition, performance, publication or recording sometime in the future.
