About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and M?ori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning results and promote social inclusion.

About this function
The Alert Program is an evidence-located self-regulation program developed by two occupational-therapists. The Ministry is trialling the delivery of The Alert Program in early learning services in order to help kaiako tailor their teaching to support children’s growing capabilities for self-regulation.
You will be responsible for the centre-wide implementation of The Alert Program. This will involve facilitating the delivery of the program to kaiako in early learning services and embedding the program across the early learning services.
You will be provided with access to online training. Once you have completed your training, you will facilitate the delivery of the program to kaiako in early learning services and provide continuing support to the early learning services.
About you
To be prosperous you will need the following:
   » A Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or equivalent as approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand
   » To be registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand and to hold a current practicing certificate
   » capability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information
   » capability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting
   » Excellent communication and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
