At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent results.
Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.
The Ministry of Education is seeking expressions of interest from suitably practiced candidates to be Chair of the New Appointments National Panel (NANP).

This panel of independent education advisers provides assurance that candidates for K?hui Ako (Communities of Learning) functions have met the significant national criteria. Information technology also provides assurance to school boards seeking to offer the Principal Recruitment Allowance that candidates have met the significant national criteria.
The NANP Chair supervises the operation and effectiveness of the panel and supports members to build consistency in their judgments. The Chair also draws on the practices and analysis of the practice of the national panel to provide feedback to the wider education system to support improvement in the quality of appointments.
There is currently a moratorium on the establishment of new K?hui Ako following collective agreement negotiations in 2019. Although this prevents the creation of new K?hui Ako, existing K?hui Ako still require the NANP to ensure candidates meet the national criteria.
Candidates are expected to have broad credibility and practice in the New Zealand education sector.
Candidates must also demonstrate a number of the following attributes:
» practice on similar review and/or assessment panels
» demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching and professional leadership abilities, including productive collaboration and inquiry practices that lead to improved student results

» prosperous practice/practice in improving results for children and young people, in particular M?ori, Pasifika, students with special education needs, and students from low socio-economic backgrounds
» clear communication expertise, adjust style to suit audience, and articulates evidence located position thinking
» demonstrated working collaboratively, positively and alongside a range of stakeholders
» proven culturally responsive practice and knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
The Ministry of Education is committed to considering candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds, including age, gender, ethnicity and geographic locations, to enable the Panel to be high-performing.
Candidates wishing to put forward an expression of interest should enclose a copy of their CV and submit a cover letter outlining why they wish to be considered for the function of the New Appointments National Panel Chair.
