Job location: Wellington and the greater Wellington region (Porirua, Kapiti Coast, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa)

Contract: Permanent. Part time 0.9 FTE including on call support

ABOUT THE function

We are seeking for a General Otolaryngologist with a sub-specialty training in head and neck to help provide elective and acute services (as part of the on-call roster). The prosperous applicant will be a highly motivated team player and will enjoy a very collegial relationship. The function is located at Wellington Regional Hospital, however they will be expected to work across the greater Wellington region in line with a current change to establish a sub-regional ENT service.

The department currently consists of seven general and subspecialist surgeons who provide a wide variety of service to the greater Wellington region and tertiary level care for the wider region. Current recruitment to the sub-regional service will see the team increase to 9 surgeons. These include general otolaryngology, rhinology and anterior skull base surgery, otology, lateral skull base and acoustic neuroma surgery, cochlear implantation, paediatric otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. We work in close collaboration with oncology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, paediatric and neurosurgery services. appropriate candidates will have opportunities for research.

As a senior medical agent, you will be responsible for providing a high standard of clinical practice and skills to the patients under your care. Information technology is essential that you are eligible for vocational registration (Otolaryngology) with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You will be known by your peers as someone who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, being able to engage with a number of different people from various backgrounds. Some undergraduate teaching is expected as well as supervision and teaching of registrars in the otolaryngology training rotation.

SKILLS AND practice

- Vocationally registered in Otolaryngology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- FRACS or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
