The Mental Health Foundation's (MHF's) vision is Mauri t?, Mauri ora – creating a society where all people flourish.
We are growing our team and are looking for more kaimahi to to be part of our M?ori Engagement team as a Kaiwhakarite – M?ori Engagement Specialist, to help improve the MHF's responsiveness to M?ori.
The MHF has an continuing commitment to Te Tiriti through guiding and prioritising our work to support the flourishing of M?ori, and we understand that to advance this vision the MHF must recognise the cultural and historical context of mental health in New Zealand including:
   » The bicultural foundation of Aotearoa/New Zealand underpinned by the Tiriti o Waitangi;
   » The aspirations of wh?nau, hap? and iwi for self-determination;
   » The history of colonisation and the inter-generational trauma and inequitable social results Information technology created; and
   » The significant inequities of mental health and wellbeing for M?ori.
We support tino rangitiratanga as a way of M?ori achieving wh?nau ora.
Your function will be to ensure the MHF's marketing and communications, programmes, projects, and resources engage effectively with M?ori.You'll work alongside MHF team members to support, advise and guide the development of a wide variety of programmes and projects, including our national campaigns Pink Shirt Day and Mental Health consciousness week, ensuring these campaigns connect with and support M?ori wh?nau, iwi, hapu and communites. You'll also be using these interactions and other M?ori Engagement team inititives as learning opportunites to build cultural capacity across the organisation.
A key element of this function will be focused on engaging with iwi, hap?, hapori, wh?nau wh?nui, wh?nau, stakeholders, other organisations and staff alike, so a proven capability to communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) in English and te reo M?ori is a must. If you're a highly motivated stand-out communicator who has a strong knowledge of te ao M?ori, including te reo me ?na tikanga, and you're keen to step up and make a positive change to the mental health and wellbeing of M?ori, we want to hear from you.
You will have:
   » practice forming and maintaining empathetic relationships with M?ori communities, organisations and agencies.
   » proficiency in te reo M?ori and English
   » a commitment to contributing to wh?nau ora for M?ori.
   » knowledge of marketing and communications techniques and approaches
   » practice designing or delivering high quality presentations or hui
   » comfort and practice with public speaking
   » an in-depth knowledge and knowledge of te ao M?ori, and m?tauranga M?ori, with a knowledge of Tikanga and Kawa.
   » confidence in the knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi including an knowledge the articles, the impacts of colonisation, racism, and intergenerational trauma and how they relate to and inform the organisation’s responsibility to M?ori wellbeing
   » an capability to work collaboratively across teams

this function sits within the Mental Health Foundation's M?ori Engagement team and reports to the Kiawhakahaere – M?ori Engagement Manger.
