Job Opportunity: Visiting Artist - Theatrical Director:Job description:Job detailsOrganisation Massey University Closes 8 Aug 2021 Posted on 12 Jul 2021 Region Manawatu / Wanganui Work type Part time employment, Contract, Fixed Term Work classification Education & Development, Literature & Publishing, Performing Arts ShareSchool of English and Media StudiesPalmerston North Massey University, in conjunction with Palmerston North City Council and Square Edge Community Arts (Palmerston North), invites applications to join the School of Humanities, Media and Creative Communication as Visiting Artist - Theatrical Director for an approximately 16-week term during the period Monday, 8 November 2021 to 14 March 2022. Actual dates will be negotiated with the prosperous applicant. This year we're only considering people currently residing in New Zealand due to restrictions caused by the pandemic. The prosperous candidate's main focus over this period will be the direction of the Manawat? Summer Shakespeare Festival which culminates in public performances in the Victoria Esplanade, Palmerston North, in late February/early March 2022. Note this period encompasses two distinct parts: cast selection and commencement of rehearsals prior to christmas, and continued rehearsals and production in the New Year leading up to the production. Performers and production team are drawn from Massey students and staff, and members of the Manawat? community. We invite directors to give us their expression of interest and a brief proposal (one to three pages) for one of the following plays: » Romeo and Juliet » Much Ado About Nothing » Macbeth » The Tempest » As You Like It The Visiting Artist will also have the opportunity to do the following: » Work with Massey University distance students at contact courses held during the contract period » Facilitate a expertise focussed community-located workshop series/project/presentation in conjunction with Square Edge Community Arts » Work closely with staff and students within the School » Provide workshops/presentations for the Manawat? Community and local High Schools Accommodation and a stipend of $11,000 will be provided. The residency also includes an office on Massey's Palmerston North campus, free access to the Massey library, and community-oriented support from Square Edge Community Arts, including a community workshop/meeting venue.
