About our group and team Te Puna Kaupapahere is the Ministry’s policy group and focuses with a whole-of-system lens across early learning, compulsory schooling, and tertiary. This also includes M?ori medium, te reo M?ori, Pacific and Learning Support. We provide advice to enable an education system which contributes to the expertise and knowledge needed by people for social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing. We develop policy about vocational expertise, access pathways, international education and student financial support. We also manage the Ministry’s international engagements and cooperation agreements. About this function The Policy work Programme Manager is responsible for the implementation, delivery and oversight of a project management focus across the wider policy group. You will excel at building stakeholder relationships, developing mechanisms that provide strategic oversight of key programmes. You will help identify the time and level of support that is recommended for individual pieces of work and maintain a group wide work programme that also captures the connected risks within all significant streams. Whilst supporting the continued development for a stronger focus on the tracking and delivery of results. You will enjoy taking a hands-on function in supporting the growth of a team of project coordinators, by ensuring they are well supported in identifying and achieving their performance and developmental goals. They will continue to support the group organise, run and report on complex pieces of work by knowledge and applying appropriate frameworks, tools and resources. About you Comfortable wearing many hats and sometimes working in the grey areas, you will thrive in developing and embedding a ‘maturing’ policy project management focus, as well enjoy growing a team of coordinators. You will need to be assertive enough to shape and manage how a large policy group calls upon and maximises the value that your team provides whilst balancing whether to educate, support or embed advice. You will also need to manage how the group’s LT has oversight of the larger work programme and is provided sufficient oversight on the significant work and continuing risks to make informed resource decisions. You will also have the following: » Proven practice working in a policy programme management function » Background in leading a team, including prioritising workload to meet customer needs, day-to-day people management and development » capability to develop effective working relationships and build credibility with stakeholders at all levels, team members and colleagues » Excellent, proven, oral and written communications, including the capability to present complex issues clearly and concisely » practice in a government agency or the education sector is highly advantageous » Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for the work of the Ministry Are you ready to make a difference?
