About our group and team
The Early Learning and Student Achievement Group sets the system-level learning for every child and student. Working between policy and customer facing functions, there is a significant political, stakeholder and public interest in the high performance of this group and the education curriculum and teaching workforce results we seek for New Zealand.
this function sits within our Office of the Deputy Secretary, to directly support the Deputy Secretary and Senior Management, facilitating effective communication processes with Ministry Senior leadership abilities and Ministers’ Offices.
It’s an exciting time to work in the group. We’re implementing Te Pout?h? – a new curriculum centre as part of Te Mahau, that will change how we interact with and support schools.
About the function
The Chief Communications Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing Te Pout?h?’s internal and external communication strategy in conformity with the group’s work programme. this function provides trusted, integrated communications services and skills to the Deputy Secretary and business groups, enabling them to provide excellent and equitable results to New Zealanders. this function works closely with the Group Manager, and other key stakeholders around the business.
About you
Ideally, you will be an practiced, passionate and resilient senior communications professional, with the capability to articulate complex issues and be adept at developing practical and achievable communications strategies. Possessing high levels of energy and resilience, you will be a driven technical expert who can inspire the group to execute at their fullest potential.
You will also offer the following:
   » Proven skills and practice working in a senior communications function in a large and/or complex organisation
   » Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, foresee risks and opportunities, and design alternative strategies to deal with change
   » practice in advising senior leadership abilities teams and developing communications strategies encompassing a broad spectrum of communications activities including: media, stakeholder engagement, channels, internal and external communications
   » Strong knowledge and affinity with Te Ao M?ori, the Treaty and an capability to lead processes to incorporate M?ori cultural views in the design of policies and initiatives that grow the education workforce
   » Political savvy to manage sensitive relationships across a complex stakeholder environment; including presenting high quality, timely and credible communications to Ministers, senior leaders and to other high level decision makers
   » Demonstrated capability and practice working effectively within a complex political environment
