Job Description

The Digital Preservation Technical Specialist co-manages the Rosetta application and technical infrastructure used for the Library's digital preservation programme. This programme supports the protection of, and long-term access to the National Library's digital collections.
This person will:
   » Work closely with a second Digital Preservation Technical Specialist to monitor the Library's technical infrastructure that uses the Ex Libris Rosetta preservation solution
   » Work closely with Technology Services and Solutions (TSS) and vendors to troubleshoot and fix problems
   » Plan, coordinate, test and communicate changes, upgrades and new services
   » Maintain and audit user accounts
   » Maintain system documentation
   » Automate processes
   » contact and collaborate with staff all over the Library and externally
   » Contribute to business planning through digital storage projections, infrastructure roadmaps, technology watches and strategic roadmaps
   » Participate in a team of digital preservation specialists
   » Participate in Library, regional and international working groups and projects

The Preservation Research and Consultancy team, of which you will be a part of, sits within the Information and expertise Services branch, the Department's centre of information management, culture and heritage. Our branch is all about collecting, storing and preserving important things that are precious to New Zealand.
Key expertise and practice (see the job description for the full list):
   » practice administrating complex technical applications, especially digital preservation systems or similar (g. digital asset management systems, data repositories)
   » Excellent people expertise and capability to communicate complex technical ideas in simple language
   » expertise of basic concepts, processes and tools of digital preservation is an advantage
