Offer: Shepherd - Sheep Milking Farm:Job description:Shepherd - Sheep Milking FarmPayment: Paid Position ($25 - $30)Job location: Te Awamutu Region: Waikato/Coromandel practice: practice Necessary Listing Added: 16/05/2022 We are a sheep milking farm, located just 5 minutes from Te Awamutu, in the Waikato. This season we will be milking 850 ewes. We are seeking for a person with sheep handling practice to assist us during our lambing season. The person will work with the farm team to monitor and assist our ewes during the lambing period. Our milking sheep are different to station sheep and we expect a high standard of care and monitoring during lambing. This will be a fast-paced, intense lambing season which we expect will last from July – September. Approximately 1600 - 1800 lambs are expected. The lambs will have time with mum and will then be moved to the purpose-built lamb rearing sheds to be hand reared. This position will mainly be focused on the lambing down program, however from time-to-time, you may be required to assist with general farm tasks and rearing. We don’t use dogs on our farm. expertise needed for the position: • Ideally at least 2-3 years of sheep practice • Good animal husbandry expertise • Empathy for livestock • Enjoy handling livestock and be relaxed and calm when moving animals • Good work ethic • Patient • Reliable and punctual • Able to drive a manual vehicle, farm motorbikes and use trailers You will be working a 6 on 1 off shift roster. Shifts hours will vary depending on the requirements each day, however you will have early starts. You will need to commit yourself to being able to work from mid-July until September, with the possibility of a function continuing after lambing.
