Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position
As the Nurse Lead – M?ori Health Development (MHD), you will have a pivotal function in the implementation and maintenance of a unifying plan that targets the needs of M?ori within General Practice networks. Placing an emphasis on engagement with the organisations treaty partners and ensuring Comprehensive Care maintains alignment with the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a Te Ao M?ori world view, this function will appreciate the distinct connection with the M?ori population, and drive excellence in clinical practice across the GP network.
With a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, the Nurse Lead MHD will help the Tumu Whakarae/CEO and General Manager Equity and M?ori Health Development establish and leverage productive relationships and effective partnerships across the business, the practice network and with key cultural influencers across the community. Fostering impactful partnerships and networking opportunities, you will maintain relationships with external education providers and key networks; and be tasked with promoting and taking a lead position in the innovative and creative clinical nursing practice to improve M?ori Health results.
Contributing to the development and implementation of an evidence-located quality standards of practice, protocols, and policies, you will support an continuing quality focus to ensure all nursing services are delivered within a safe and legally sound framework Contributing to clinical practice change through dissemination and development of guidelines and protocols, you will actively promote and support the organisational responsibilities to progress the Professional Development Recognition Programme as a core quality nursing initiative. Proactively identifying and fostering relationships with key external community, business, and cultural stakeholders, you will be targeting partnerships with those who can both accurately inform on challenges faced and decide on proposed solutions. Working with all GM EMHD and ELT members, you will be responsible for respective divisions being proactively engaged with and supported on Equity matters.
Advising on, the design and implementation of all significant community and healthcare programmes, projects and initiatives to actively engage, promote or generally improve M?ori health results, you will review M?ori health performance across CCPHO to identify where underlying causal factors may require equity team input. Taking a lead position as an educator / trainer, you will contribute to the development of a range of learning and teaching methods, providing, support and delivering formal and informal education to nursing staff. Able to identify gaps in clinical and professional competencies, you will develop plans of action to address including providing clinical support and supervision as required
Ng? tino P?kenga/Wheako – Essential expertise/practices for the function.
Proven practice in service development and delivery for M?ori, and other equity groups such as Pacific peoples, mental health, addiction communities, and discapability communities, is pre-requisite.
   » A clinical qualification and 5+ years of M?ori community engagement practice, preferably within health sector.
   » Demonstrable success in M?ori cultural leadership abilities, engagement and management-located positions.
   » An broad background in cultural community engagement, preferably in health sector or within a health equity remit.
   » Sound knowledge of the Primary Health, Mental Health, Discapability or Social Service sectors.
   » Proven practice in engaging with iwi, hap? and M?ori organisations, supported by a competency in Te Reo M?ori, and comfortable with tikanga M?ori.
   » Advanced knowledge of Health Equity within a New Zealand context supported by the practice in order to proactively identify equity gaps and provide solutions.
   » capability to train and deliver formal and informal education to nursing staff as required internally and externally.
   » Robust critical analysis and report writing expertise, an exceptional capability to think strategically and critically analyse complex data and to recommend solutions.
   » practice in effectively managing a wide variety of stakeholders with a strong collaborative focus on mutually beneficial partnerships.
   » Demonstrated capability to engage at all levels and in varying leadership abilities styles to drive pragmatic solutions
   » Excellent relationship management expertise and proven capability to influence stakeholders
   » Self-motivated, organised, self-confident, and self-directing, with the capability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
   » The natural capacity to uplift the mana of others
Reporting to the GM Equity & M?ori Health Development, you will have the natural aptitude to apply a variety of expertise in order to engage people in a wide variety of situations. You will have an exceptionally strong cultural competence, and able to embed tikanga M?ori in all you do.
Recent practice in service development and delivery for equity groups would be hugely advantageous. Relationship centric, this position will appeal to individuals who have the personal confidence, and mana in order to reach out to others and bring stakeholders on the journey with you.
An active commitment to, and a sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the unique status of M?ori as t?ngata whenua is imperative.
