The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has an exciting opportunity for a talented policy professional to join the Security and Intelligence Policy team in the National Security Policy Directorate. We are a dynamic team navigating some of New Zealand’s most pressing policy challenges and fostering system evolution and improvement. We’re looking for a Principal Policy Advisor to lead work on complex national security policy issues.
The National Security Policy Directorate (NSPD) sits within the National Security Group, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The function of the Security and Intelligence Policy team is to provide strategic policy advice and influential thought leadership abilities on cross-cutting national security and intelligence matters.We are a collaborative team working on cross-cutting projects and offer a dynamic, agile environment for our policy professionals.
Whilst you will be appointed to the Security and Intelligence Policy team, you are joining the National Security Policy Directorate and may work on other national security policy areas during your time with us.
Positions are full-time, permanent, and are Wellington-located, although we be may be able to be flexible for the right person.
What are we looking for?
The Policy Project’s Policy expertise Framework describes the expertise, expertise and behaviours required of NSPD’s policy advisors. Principal Policy Advisors are expected to demonstrate these at theexpert/leadinglevel. For detailed descriptors, refer to the full Policy expertise Framework.
Our ideal candidates will have:

   » expertise of government priorities and significant political context.
   » Demonstrated capability to apply analytical frameworks and methods and to manage the delivery of complex policy projects.

   » Sound judgement, organisational and political nous, critical and lateral thinking.
   » The capability to influence and engage others within and outside the organisation.
   » Excellent communication expertise – persuasive, collaborative and inspiring.
   » Emotional intelligence and a consultative nature.
Eligibility requirements : To be eligible for these positions, you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must also be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15-year checkable background in countries where significant and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
DPMC has adopted a Vaccination Policy which requires all candidates to have a Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate, otherwise known as a My Vaccine Pass (CVC) in order commence employment.
The income ranges, including superannuation, for this function is $131,987 – $178,571, with the mid-point $155,279.
