The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has an exciting opportunity for two talented policy professionals to join the Cyber Policy team in the National Security Policy Directorate. We are a dynamic team navigating some of New Zealand’s most pressing policy challenges and fostering system evolution. We’re looking for two policy advisors, at senior or principal level, to work on cyber security policy issues.
The National Security Policy Directorate (NSPD) sits within the National Security Group, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The function of the Cyber Policy team is to provide policy and thought leadership abilities on cyber policy and emerging technology security and resilience matters.We are a collaborative team working on cross-cutting projects and offer a dynamic, agile environment for our policy professionals.
Whilst you will be appointed to the cyber policy team, you are joining the National Security Policy Directorate and may work on other national security policy areas during your time with us.
Positions are full-time, permanent, and are Wellington-located, although we be may be able to be flexible for the right person.
What are we looking for?
The Policy Project’s Policy expertise Framework describes the expertise, expertise and behaviours required of NSPD’s policy advisors. Senior Policy Advisors are expected to demonstrate these at thepractisinglevel. Principal Policy Advisors are expected to demonstrate these at theexpert/leadinglevel. Our ideal candidates will have:
   » practice in a policy environment working on complex projects
   » an interest in national security and cyber security, or in working to provide better results for NewZealanders
   » expertise of government priorities and significant political context
   » demonstrated capability to apply analytical frameworks and methods
   » practice developing others through coaching and mentoring to achieve high performance
   » sound judgement, organisational and political nous, critical and lateral thinking
   » the capability to influence and engage others within and outside the organisation
   » excellent communication expertise – persuasive, collaborative and inspiring
   » emotional intelligence and a consultative nature
Eligibility requirements : To be eligible for these positions, you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must also be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15-year checkable background in countries where significant and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
The income ranges, including superannuation, for these functions are:
Principal Policy Advisor: $131,987 – $178,571
Senior Policy Advisor: $94,716 – $128,146
