About our group and team
The Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) group is a key part of the Ministry, with over 300 staff. Information technology sets system-level learning standards and supports education leaders to lift progress and achievement for all children and young people. The group achieves this by advising on New Zealand’s curricula, the provision of personalised learning pathways, and a quality and sustainable education workforce.
At the heart of our work is making sure that every day, in every early learning service, k?hanga reo, school, and kura, the education workforce and curriculum delivery is world class, and focused on what New Zealanders need for their best future.
Within ELSA, the Teacher Supply team is about having the right teachers in the right place at the right time, across NZ. The Teacher Supply programme is responsible for the design and implementation of a range of initiatives/ projects, and interfaces with stakeholders and functional groups within and beyond the Ministry.
About this function
The Senior Adviser, Teacher Supply provides expert advice and supports a team that is focused on lifting the number, diversity and calibre of the education workforce, using workforce data to tailor existing initiatives or to establish and shape the direction of new projects and initiatives.
The Senior Adviser uses their capabilities, project management expertise, analytical expertise and knowledge of the Ministry’s systems to determine how best to establish, design, implement, monitor and deliver effective Teacher Supply initiatives.
About you
As an practiced Senior Adviser, you will have the capability to lead collaborative working relationships to design and develop initiatives, products and services that will ensure quality results are achieved. Your sound critical thinking and problem-solving expertise will enable you to interpret research and data from a wide variety of sources and use the information to design and implement teacher supply initiatives.
You will also bring the following:
   » Strong government practice
   » Proven capability to build trusted and effective stakeholder relationships
   » Essential project management expertise to lead, design and develop programmes and initiatives
   » An analytical mind-set
   » Strong business writing expertise (essential)
   » An knowledge of the context of the education system and the needs of English medium and M?ori medium in schools
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
