Te Papa Atawhai is offering an exciting opportunity for two highly motivated and skilled individuals to be at the leading edge of iwi partnershipand conservation leadership abilities in T?maki Makaurau.
We have twoRanger, Treaty Implementation and Community positions in T?maki Makaurau/AucklandMainland located in either Warkworth/Mahurangi, North Head/Maungauika or Auckland (full-time, permanent) These positions would for a team of three with the existing Ranger, Treaty Implementation and Community position.
He angit?tanga: About the function
The M?ori (mana whenua and mat?waka) landscape in the DOC Auckland region is complex with 19 iwi (with overlapping rights and interests and at varying stages of settlement redress and settlement implementation) and active mat?waka interests. DOC staff are reliant on excellent expertise of the M?ori landscape to effectively undertake their work.
The function contributes to conditions within the DOC Auckland Region that best provide for high quality relationships with wh?nau, hap? and iwi so that all DOC staff are supported to understand the Treaty landscape of T?maki Makaurau and DOC Operations staff can build their capacity to fulfil Treaty obligations.
this function supports the Auckland Operations Teams to energise their Treaty Partnership priorities and mitigate risk from non-fulfilment of Treaty obligations.
Some of the major components of work include:
   » Support the roll out of work scheduling and reporting for Treaty settlement commitments.
   » Facilitate coordination of regular meetings with wh?nau, hap? and iwi;
   » Support opportunities for wh?nau, hap? and iwi to build their internal capabilities to practise their responsibilities as kaitiaki;
   » Keep up to date with the iwi landscape in Auckland and ensure this information is shared with Operations;
   » Support staff in the DOC Auckland Region to increase their cultural competency.
He k?rero m?u: What We are seeking for :
   » Te Reo me ona tikanga M?ori
   » Able to engage and support aspirations of wh?nau, hap? and iwi and give effect to Treaty principles
   » capability to navigate and balance differing perspectives while maintaining alignment with DOC goals;
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise
   » expertise of, or availability to acquire, T?maki Makaurau iwi history, traditions and customary practices;
   » Be able to see the big picture and to have enthusiasm to find workable practical solutions;
   » Current full driving license.
   » Identifying gaps in Treaty settlement implementation obligations across the Districts and work with the Operations team to plan for, and remedy the gaps;
   » Scope work arising from new Treaty settlements, and work with the management team to operationalize conservation and commercial opportunities for Iwi;
   » Coordinate legal input to interpret settlement documents and ensure the implementation plan fulfils the intent of the Settlement;
   » Facilitate coordination of annual business planning meetings with wh?nau, hap? and iwi;
   » Support coordination of regular meetings with wh?nau, hap? and iwi to develop, review and amend implementation of significant agreements, charters and protocols;
   » Scope, plan, manage and deliver specific agreed initiatives;
   » Support significant managers, Director, and other staff with the strategic collaboration meetings with wh?nau, hap? and iwi;
   » Support opportunities for wh?nau, hap? and iwi to build their internal capabilities to practise their responsibilities as kaitiaki;
   » Support the Operational leadership abilities Team to develop a regional framework to identify and implement DOC’s obligations to Post Settlement Governance Entities (PSGEs);
   » Keep up to date with the iwi landscape in Auckland and ensure this information is shared with Operations
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
