The M?ori Education Group provide leadership abilities, support and advice across the Ministry to develop strategy and build capcapability to address systemic inequity, and accelerate excellent results for M?ori learners and wh?nau. We prioritise strong relationships and partnership s, underpinned by m?tauranga M?ori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We also support Ministers, the Secretary for Education and senior leaders to respond to Treaty of Waitangi business and related matters.
The M?ori Education Team sits within the M?ori Education Group and supports Ka Hikitia in Action across the Ministry and education agencies, driven by a strong focus on giving effect to Te Tiriti / Treaty partnership across the Ministry.
About this function
The Senior Advisor – M?ori Education, leads and supports the provision of expert information and advice, coordination and delivery of work programmes to support Ka Hikitia implementation and give effect to te Tiriti | Treaty partnership across the Ministry.
The Senior Advisor works across other M?ori Education Group workstreams, as required, to facilitate an integrated focus on M?ori enjoying and achieving education success as M?ori.
The Senior Advisor – M?ori Education will:
   » be familiar with te ao M?ori and te Tiriti | Treaty and its implications for the work of the Ministry of Education and other education agencies
   » provide expert advice to build coordinated leadership abilities and action for implementation of Ka Hikitia across the Ministry and to support sector-wide implementation
   » support efforts to ensure the Tiriti |Treaty is considered as part of significant new policy developments or initiatives and provide expert advice and leadership abilities in Te Tiriti | Treaty policy, strategy and work programme implementation
   » Effectively partner with and value iwi, hap?, and wh?nau as repositories of their identity, language and culture, and implement strategies across the Ministry to drive enduring partnerships that give effect to te Tiriti | Treaty.
   » Provide expert advice to deliver high quality service that has measureable impacts for the education sector and M?ori achieving success as M?ori
   » Mentor and coach advisors to produce expert advice, strategic leadership abilities and to strengthen relationship building and m?tauranga M?ori capcapability across the team.
About you
You will be practiced in utilising your technical expertise to coordinate and provide expert advice. As a Senior Advisor – M?ori Education you will have a passion for developing partnerships with M?ori and practice bringing a Te Ao M?ori approach to influence change in the public sector.
You need to be able to build sustainable relationships and partnerships across the organisation and sector. A passion for working in a kaupapa M?ori and Te Ao M?ori environment is essential. You have an knowledge of and appreciation for Te Reo, Tikanga and M?tauranga M?ori.
To be prosperous in the function you will:

   » challenge racist views, policy and practice and be deliberate in stimulating organisation and system change to advance racial equity
   » prioritise building great relationships and partnerships with people at all levels of the organisation

   » enable others to understand the place of mana whenua in decision making regarding whenua and uri
   » proactively apply and implement M?ori perspectives (identity, language and culture), principles and practices all over all work programmes
   » adapt to working in a fast paced environment
   » have the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
