Te Kura Kaiwhakaw? (Te Kura) is the education and development arm of Aotearoa New Zealand’s judiciary. Te Kura is a business unit of the Office of the Chief Justice – Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakaw?.
From 1 January 2022 Te Kura is funded for an initial five-year period by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) to deliver support to judiciaries and courts in 15 Pacific countries. this function will lead the new team in Te Kura to deliver that programme.
TheDeputy DirectorPacific Justice Sector Programme(PJSP)will be responsible for the smooth and effective delivery of MFAT’s regional Pacific justice sector programmes by Te Kura. You will report to the Director Te Kura and form part of TeKura’s leadership abilities team, and will work with the Te Kura Board and the PJSP Pacific Chief Justices’ leadership abilities Forum and Executive Committee.
You will be doing the following:
   » Lead the Pacific team and continue to build its development within Te Kura Kaiwhakaw?
   » Deliver high-quality and effective support for our Pacific partners through fit for purpose programmes informed by needs and strong Pacific justice sector engagement
   » Implement a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) framework and Journey of Change for the life of the programme
   » Lead the delivery of strategic and operational relationships with key stakeholders, including MFAT; Pacific Chief Justices, heads of bench, judicial agents and court staff; University of the South Pacific; PNG Centre for Judicial Excellence; NZ judiciary, Te Tari Toko I Te Tumu Whakaw? / Office of the Chief Justice, and Te T?h? o te Ture / Ministry of Justice
   » Provide any further support to the Director Te Kura as required

To succeed in the function, you will have the following:
   » Proficiency in Pacific cultures and ideally in a Pacific language(s)
   » Proven strength and practice in senior leadership abilities, people management and delivering programmes of work. practice managing programmes for Pacific Peoples would be an advantage
   » Strong relationship building expertise and practice in engaging with Pacific Peoples / communities – in Aotearoa NZ and, ideally, in the Pacific
   » A proven commitment to working under the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working with M?ori, Pacific Peoples and other ethnicities and cultures
   » A significant tertiary qualification, and a working expertise of the judiciary and/or machinery of government would be an advantage
   » Be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi

income range: The appointing income for this function will be between $116,741 and $152,450 located on expertise and practice.
