Auckland Art Gallery Toi o T?maki is a cultural leader in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Gallery's vision is to be the home of art for Auckland, its people and visitors to its internationally recognised award-winning building. Established in 1888, the Gallery holds a preeminent collection of New Zealand art and a significant collection of international art, and presents a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions, public engagement and outreach activities.
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o T?makiis looking to appoint a new Curator, M?ori Art to further increase consciousness, knowledge and advocacy of M?ori art. this function enables targeted research, collection and exhibition development, while fostering closer dialogue with iwi and M?ori communities. Information technology aims to increase access to M?ori art and give greater visibility to M?ori narratives in the Gallery's collection and their context in Aotearoa New Zealand.
He k?rero m?u: About you
As an practiced curator, you have a track record of developing innovative exhibitions of M?ori art and working closely with M?ori artists. You have a high level of cultural competence in engaging within M?ori communities and are committed to increasing public access to and knowledge about M?ori art.
You will have:
   » A post graduate qualification in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, M?ori Studies or related discipline, preferably at Master's level
   » Minimum of 5 years of recent curatorial practice, preferably in art museum context
   » An knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and biculturalism as they relate to the Gallery and its programmes
   » broad knowledge of M?ori art and demonstrated practice working with M?ori artists
   » Excellent research, writing and communication expertise with a record of publishing on M?ori art
   » Advanced cultural competency in engaging within M?ori communities, including an knowledge and demonstration of leading with community respect
   » Familiarity with a collection database (preferably Vernon)

If you have a keen interest in and knowledge of M?ori art and are looking for an opportunity to work with professional colleagues at a challenging and exciting period of the Gallery's development, then look no further. This is an excellent opportunity for a curator building their career to gain practice at Aotearoa New Zealand's leading visual arts institution. this function comes with a permanent, full-time contract.
Depending on expertise and practice, an appointment may be made at either Curator or Senior Curator level.
You will work standard business hours, though you will need to be available for weekend talks, evening events and projects as required, on a regular basis.
