Te Kura Aronui, The School of Social Sciences is comprised of a number of programmes, including Anthropology, Environmental Planning, Geography, History, International Relations and Security Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work. The function of the School of Social Sciences is to provide teaching and research in these subject areas. The School offers a range of papers in Social Sciences, at undergraduate, post-graduate and professional training levels. Teaching occurs on the Hamilton and the Tauranga Campuses of the University of Waikato.
The Environmental Planning and Geography programmes are distinctive in their focus on M?ori communities and M?ori resource management and planning, and this position is designed to strengthen that offering.
Ng? k?rero m? te t?ranga – About the function
We are pursuing a Pukenga/Lecturer to join our dynamic school, to produce high quality research outputs and contribute to ako (teaching), postgraduate supervision and administrative requirements within the school.
You will also maintain and develop rangahau (original scholarship and research) and to undertake professional/community/iwi service activities significant to M?ori Resource Management and Environmental Planning.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
To be prosperous in this function you will have completed (or nearly completed) a PhD and have broad and in-depth expertise of Environmental Planning in Aotearoa such as: Indigenous planning theory, M?ori resource management and planning, Kaupapa M?ori decision-making frameworks, M?ori urban communities, Te Aranga Principles, Indigenous urbanism, M?ori environmental and climate change justice.
In addition to a PhD you will need to have:
   » evidence of capability to weave m?tauranga M?ori into teaching and learning;
   » an emerging or proven track record of Kaupapa M?ori research design and practice alongside mainstream research approaches;
   » evidence of capability to disseminate research in a variety of forums including te ao M?ori
You will also have excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication expertise, be able to work as part of a team and have the capability to work flexibly and positively in a rapidly changing environment.
