Kairaranga-a-Wh?nau – Christchurch site
Are you passionate about putting our tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of everything you do and say? Want to work in a value-located function where you can provide direct and significant support? Look no further, we are currently seeking a Kairaranga a-Wh?nau to join our Christchurch Site.
For this exciting function, working closely with Oranga Tamariki social Workers and Coordinators, the Kairaranga a-Wh?nau will assist in identifying wh?nau, hap? and iwi relationships for tamariki and rangatahi. You will also be developing and maintaining relationships with tangata whenua and other key members of cultural groups. You will also be providing support in building cultural capcapability by working in partnership with the Christchurch Site Manager and Site leadership abilities team. Another big part of your function will include convening and facilitating hui-a-wh?nau, especially prior to Family Group Conferences.
In addition, you will promote an knowledge of Oranga Tamariki processes with those you meet. You will be responsible in decision-making processes and facilitating active participation by our tamariki, rangatahi and wh?nau in their development, and of the strengthening of their whakapapa knowledge.
To be prosperous in this function, you will need to bring your well-developed relationship building expertise to build strong networks with local Iwi, Marae, and community. Another key attribute that you will be sharing is your good communication expertise, specifically in Te Reo M?ori both verbally and written. Proven negotiation and advocacy expertise at a senior level will be advantageous, as well as strong problem solving, and decision-making expertise.You will also be supported in the function by other Kairaranga a-Wh?nau within Lower South and other regions all over Aotearoa.
Whatyou willdo:
   » Support tamariki and rangatahi to be well connected to their wh?nau
   » Support Social Workers and Coordinators to identify wh?nau, hap? and iwi relationships for tamariki and wh?nau
   » Organise and facilitate hui-a-wh?nau, especially prior to Family Group Conferences
   » Assist tamariki, rangatahi and wh?nau to be well prepared to participate in all wh?nau-led decision making processes
   » Where appropriate, support wh?nau to identify those within the wh?nau who may be able to offer care (if required) to tamariki and rangatahi
   » Support cultural capcapability building within the site, in partnership with the Site Manager and Practice Leader
   » Develop and maintain relationships with tangata whenua, key members of other cultural groups and other community groups
What you will bring:
   » Good knowledge and knowledge of te reo me ona tikanga
   » practice in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, in particular M?ori and Pacifica
   » practice in working with wh?nau, hap?, iwi and other cultural groups, to gather knowledge of whakapapa
   » Established relationships and networks with local Iwi, marae, and community
   » The capability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences and build and maintain rapport with others.
   » The capability to apply the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 particularly section 7AA, mana tamaiti, whakapapa and whanaungatanga
   » Excellent computer, verbal, written and interpersonal expertise
   » A current, full, clean driver’s licence
