   »Manage the working relationships with NEMA, external subject matter and technical experts, MFAT, and Pacific Island National Disaster Management Offices
   »Coordinate the programme deliverables between MFAT and NEMA
   »Ensure the effective delivery of the Pacific Programme
This position is located in New Zealand (Wellington preferred but not essential).

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership abilities to New Zealand’s distributed emergency management system. NEMA’s primary focus is on the performance and capcapability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery. function Purpose / Kaupapa T?ranga
The International Engagement Team / Whakawhitiwhiti Ao Wh?nui is responsible for coordinating NEMA’s international relationships and engagements; promoting international cooperation and coordination; enhancing disaster readiness and response; and to track and report on NEMA’s international activities.
MFAT and NEMA are committed to New Zealand providing an effective and timely response to disasters globally and in the Pacific, and to improved levels of resilience and enhanced capcapability for risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery from disasters in the Pacific. This is carried out through the Pacific Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Programme, funded by MFAT and managed by the International Engagement Team of NEMA through a Memorandum of knowledge.
expertise & practice / Tohunga & Wheako
   » A significant tertiary qualification or an equivalent body of knowledge and practice
   » Significant practice in managing programmes and projects to deliver expected results, preferably international development programmes
   » practice in procurement and contract management in a government context
   » practice in persuading, influencing, building and maintaining effective collaborative relationships
   » Knowledge of Pacific Island nations and culture, and the Pacific context
   » capability to identify, manage and minimise risks
Knowledge of aid programmes, emergency management processes, and the Machinery of Government would be an advantage.

   » Able to manage without authority and ensure work gets completed effectively and on time
   » Discretion and tact.
