Howick Historical Village (HHV) is owned and operated by the Howick & Districts Historical Societyas a key visitor attraction that tells the story of T?maki Makaurau Auckland. Purpose of the function:
Howick Historical Village is going through an exciting time with a new vision and purpose. this function is a key driver to enacting these changes as we work to showcase our cultural heritage through the lens of our new Strategic Plan, available here.

The Storytelling Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating storytelling activities at HHV, including researching, compiling, and sharing stories and histories that have otherwise not been given space or voice. They will work across all departments to preserve, enrich, and encourage the narration of T?maki Makaurau's wide ranging voices in creative, inclusive, and multi-disciplinary ways.
The prosperous candidate must be a creative problem solver, able to connect and work with diverse communities, confident when speaking in front of a range of listeners, and aware of social and cultural norms that may carry certain expectations about the sharing of knowledge. They will facilitate exploration and sharing of all cultures within our region, with a particular focus on te ao M?ori.
Part of this function is administrative and covers the management of bookings, and other organizational and procedural tasks. Some flexible working will be required to cover evening, weekend, and holiday events, as determined by the General Manager.
About you:
   »Knowledge/Qualification/practice
   » Degree in Education, Creative Writing, Cultural Anthropology, Fine Arts or Arts and Humanities, or Museum Studies ( strongly preferred ). broad practice in any of these areas will also be considered.
   » Confidence and competency in using te Reo M?ori in both formal and informal written and spoken formats ( strongly preferred ).
   » Have an established artistic practice ( strongly preferred ).
   » practice knowledge and applying principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and honouring the Treaty of Waitangi particularly in sharing stories and information connected to M?ori culture and heritage.
   » Proven practice of working with communities, particularly youth, from diverse backgrounds.
   » Demonstrated practice of delivering creative storytelling initiatives to a variety of audiences, especially with youth.
   » capability to network and develop (if candidate does not already have) knowledge of social structures and institutions in the local and regional community, including an capability to recognize new perspectives for development, knowing whom to address for support, and being aware of stakeholders and decision makers.
   »expertise and Abilities
   » An effective communicator who can interact with diverse individuals in a small and large group settings representing the Village to external customers.
   » capability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
   » capability to evaluate and recommend changes to existing educational programmes to support the refreshed New Zealand curriculum.
   » Strong interpersonal and communication expertise.
   » Good time management, coordination, and organisational expertise.
   » Strong creative and visionary abilities to add value to current or future educational programmes.
   » Cultural consciousness, empathy, and sensitivity.
   » Inspire and motivate others to help bring projects to life.

   » Creativity, resourcefulness, and improvisation expertise and practice.
   » Solid computer-proficiency expertise and abilities in Microsoft suite.
   » capability to work well and participate fully in a team environment.
   » Show initiative and enthusiasm.
   » Valid NZ Driver License.
