About our group
The Secondary Tertiary Group sits within Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.
ELSA works tomake learning and teaching significant, real and valued. We deliver and maintain critical services for the education sector to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial function working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions.
The Secondary Tertiary Group is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including the continuing NCEA Review and preparing for the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary pathways and transitions.
Project Coordinator function
The Project Coordinator – Pathways and Transitions is part of the team that is currently delivering the NCEA Review and related initiatives to support social, emotional and life expertise education, careers education, and vocational education in schools.
For these (and upcoming) projects, the Project Coordinator supports the Project and Programme Manager to assist them in organising and controlling project activities to ensure that the project is delivered in conformity with best practice and Ministry process and documentation requirements.
About the person
We are seeking for someone who is thoughtful, agile and adept at handling ambiguity and complexity. Our ideal candidate will take pride in producing high quality work and will be comfortable working independently to achieve defined objectives. The person will be sensitive to cultural values and have a good knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
We are wanting someone who has practice working in the project/programme space, managing and working across multiple projects and workstreams with competing pressures. They will have a proactive mindset and be able to identify and mitigate risks as they arise, and engage with stakeholders.
They will have sharp interpersonal expertise, superior writing expertise, and will be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry.
practice and qualifications
It is desirable that candidates may have or be working towards a significant tertiary qualification or project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE 2 Practitioner or PMP/CAPM certified).
Candidates will also have knowledge and/or practice in the following:
   » practice in using project management methodologies, techniques, documentation and standards
   » practice in working within the public sector and knowledge of the political environment and how related issues should be managed
   » practice in organising – identifying what matters, anticipating next steps, accurately delivering what was commissioned
