We are pursuing a qualified and practiced specialist to join our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) school wide team in the Otago region on a full-time, permanant basis. This is an opportunity for you to affect positive behaviour change at a systems level.

At Te Tahuhu o te Matauranga – Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to akonga and whanau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and knowledge the needs of those who receive our services.

   » giving priority to regional and local voice
   » delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support
   » improving feedback loops and information flows.

About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau – Te Tai Runga (South) Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
The Ministry of Education is committed to inclusive practice. We work alongside families, early childhood educators, schools and other agencies in order to make a positive difference for children and young people.
Mo tenei turanga – About this function
PB4L School Wide is a whole school approach to improving learner behaviour and achievement. School Wide Practitioners provide training and continuing coaching to School-Wide teams set up within the school. They work with these school teams to implement consistent and sustainable behaviour support systems that promote quality teaching and learning.
The Schoolwide Practitioner is effectively a coach, mentor and best practice resource for the development and maintenance of positive learning behaviour in the education sector. candidates are encouraged to read about the approach (http://pb4l.tki.org.nz/PB4L-School-Wide) before considering their application.
Mohou ake – About you
Ideal candidates for this function will have:
   » undertaken postgraduate studies in behaviour management and be an educational psychologist
   » proven competence in working with teachers in schools to reduce challenging student behaviours
   » confident presentation and facilitation expertise with groups of educators
   » demonstrated relationship management and influencing expertise with the capability to build strong working relationships and effective networks with key internal and external stakeholders
   » be able to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi.
practice in Maori-medium education and fluency in te reo Maori would be an advantage. A good knowledge of the links between PB4L and the Learning Support Delivery Model is also desirable.
